UP in the Golden Hour

Photographer: Ardie Lopez
Location: UP Diliman, Quezon City
Camera used: DJI Phantom 3 Advanced

This was a case of planning to be at the right time at the right place. This was just my second time to fly a drone ever, so while my hands were jittery from almost losing the drone when it lost contact with my remote, then eventually gaining the connection and getting all the footage I needed, I took a parting shot of this glorious sunset. I took a few to make sure I had it. No tweaking of settings, I just put the drone on photo mode and fired away, since I had enough excitement for that day. I processed the image eventually in Photoshop, and well, GMA 7 picked it up to share on social media, and it was shared like 13,000 times. I also received a lot of heartwarming messages from UP alumnae from locally and overseas, thanking me for this photo that made them feel good.

Takeaway:
My primary objective was to shoot nice footage of a sunset in U.P. Diliman, and well on top of still learning to fly a drone properly. But as a great opportunity presents itself, you’ll have to be ready to do what it takes to not miss it, as the benefits it’ll reap could be awesome. So if the photo op is there, do what you can to grab it, and grab it good.
