Glorious Balesin Sunset
Photographer: Ardie Lopez
Location: Balesin
Camera Used: iPhone 6Plus
I had my full frame mirrorless with me and shot this sunset with it, but I also wanted to post a good image of it quickly on social media, so I also shot with my smartphone. Crucial here is to get the proper exposure, so it was as simple as touching the part of the frame for the focus to lock in then touch-dragging the exposure to get the exact lighting I wanted, to render the dock and the shed as just silhouettes. Also, framing and symmetry in the shot is an important aspect as well, so I considered that before doing my setting tweaks. I did very minimal processing using my Photoshop Express app in-phone, with slight constrast and saturation adjustments to make it pop. Then, in less than 2 minutes after taking the shot, it was posted on Facebook.
Takeaway:
With whatever camera you have with you, always know its limitations so you can work around it, and shoot to maximize what it can do. Also, if the scene before you is fantastic to see to begin with, then try to capture that and just add what’s necessary, if you think post processing would even help make it better.
